We got our hands on four SAS 6 Gb/s RAID controllers from Adaptec, Areca, HighPoint, and LSI and ran them through RAID 0, 5, 6, and 10 workloads to test their mettle. Does your system need eight more ports of connectivity? We can answer that!

Benchmark Results: I/O Performance In RAID 0 And 5

RAID 0

RAID 0 benchmarks don't demonstrate significant differences between the RAID controllers, apart from HighPoint's RocketRAID 2720SGL.

RAID 5

The RAID 5 benchmarks do not help the HighPoint controller gain any lost ground. In contrast to the RAID 0 benchmarks, even the three faster controllers reveal their respective strenghts and weaknesses here.
