LaCie Intros 2big, 4big Quadra with USB 3.0

LaCie said that its professional 2big and 4big Quadra multi-bay RAID solutions now feature USB 3.0 technology. Designed by Neil Poulton, both models have been completely re-engineered to support UAS (USB-Attached SCSI Protocol) and 7200rpm hard drives, offering up to 210 MB/s and 245 MB/s speeds respectively.

"The LaCie 2big Quadra USB 3.0 and LaCie 4big Quadra USB 3.0 are ideal storage solutions for intensive content creation, secure backup, or massive desktop storage," the company said. "With speeds twice as fast as Firewire 800 these products help professionals get their work done faster. Video editors can play back multiple HD video streams at the same time with Final Cut Pro X or Premiere. Additionally, photographers can browse large photo libraries and edit in Apeture or Lightroom 4 without delay."

According to the company, both models feature a "state of the art" cooling system. For instance, the LaCie 2big Quadra includes an innovative heat-dissipating aluminum casing, a completely redesigned fan, and jumbo heat exhausts. The LaCie 4big Quadra incorporates the Noctua cooling system that offers superior pressure and airflow performance. Both models are specifically engineered to be ultra-quiet.

In addition to the cooling features, both models offer two FireWire 800 connections so that users can daisy chain other external storage or A/V peripherals. They also support hot swappable drives and four RAID modes: RAID 0, RAID 1 (2big only) or RAID 5 (4big only), Mixed and Concatenation. They're also Kensington lock compatible, and offer an Eco mode for saving on the power bill.

"The LaCie 2big and 4big Quadra offer seamless cross-platform compatibility in any work environment," the company said. "With USB 3.0 these products are a great companion for a new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air or PC. Backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 means the user can connect the product to any standard computer."

The LaCie 2big Quadra is available in 4 TB or 6 TB capacities starting at $499.00. The LaCie 4big Quadra is available in 8 TB or 12 TB capacities starting at $1,099.00. These products can be purchased in October 2012 at the LaCie Online Store and LaCie Storage Partners. For more product information, visit www.lacie.com.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking of Portal. :) Though, weren't the LaCie the bad guys? No, the player was the LaCie in FFXIII, right? I got bored with the game a while back and didn't actually finish. :(

  • “Never Buy a Lacie Drive” – Quality ok, Design ok, Noise heavy, Costs unrealistic, Support catastrophic, after 1-2 new OSX versions there will be no compatible firmware, if you use it as network drive or with TimeMachine, the product hereby becomes useless – made much better experiences with WD several times... for more information just google: “Never Buy a Lacie Drive” - i'm not alone with this experience...
