Acer's CloudMobile Goes Up for Preorder in the UK
Acer's CloudMobile smartphone looks to be launching in a couple of weeks.
Looks like consumers might finally be able to get their hands on the Acer CloudMobile. Announced in February of this year and shown off at the Mobile World Congress, we haven't seen much of the award winning phone since. However, it looks like all that is going to change in the first week of September, as the phone has just hit pre-order status in the United Kingdom.
Specswise, you're looking at a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon chipset, a 4.3-inch 720p HD display, 1GB or RAM, 16GB of internal memory (MicroSD up to 32GB), an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, WiFi, Bluetooth, microUSB, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. As you probably guessed from the name, the phone is part of Acer's cloud computing push, and is actually the first handset to offer AcerCloud technology.
Acer hasn't officially announced availability yet, but Expansys UK has the phone on its website for pre-order with the release date listed as Wednesday 5 September 2012. As far as price is concerned, Expansys has it tagged at £284.99 for the SIM-free version. It's not yet clear how much the phone will cost on-contract or if Acer plans to launch the phone in other regions at the same time. Acer said in February that the phone would be available in Q3 of this year, though, so it looks like this launch is right on time.
