Akitio Rolls Out 256 GB Thunderbolt SSD
Akitio has introduced a 256 GB Thunderbolt-based external storage solution.
Akitio is releasing a Thunderbolt-based external storage solution using an SSD. Akitio has decided to issue a larger version than the previous 120 GB solution that it offered due to large demand for the original as well as a bigger version. Therefore, Akitio is releasing a 256 GB version of its Thunderbolt-based external storage solution.
Using the Thunderbolt interface in combination with the high-speed built-in SATA controller, it is possible to reach sequential read speeds of up to 464 MB/s. Beyond the speed advantage, the power provided by the Thunderbolt interface makes it possible to power the unit solely off the Thunderbolt interface. Akitio boasts that this makes it the fastest Thunderbolt powered storage solution to date.
It remains unknown which SSD Akitio uses inside the unit.
So far there has been no word on availability or pricing, however, the drive will be backed by a two year warranty.

DarkSable Ooh. That thing is kinda sexy.Reply
My first thought was that this would be a great option for older laptops with IDE drives before I realized how stupid that was - a laptop with an IDE drive sure ain't going to have a thunderbolt port.
