Fujitsu Recycles Old CDs and DVDs Into Notebook PCs

Ever since CDs and DVDs first made their appearance into the tech world, they have done an excellent job of storing our files, media and software.

But now with USB flash drives, cloud technology and smarter media players, CDs and DVDs are beginning to fade away into the realm of floppy discs.

Over the years, you have probably collected dozens of those old AOL trial discs only to end up tossing them into the trash or using them as coasters.

Finally, a laptop manufacturer has decided to step it up with the "Industry's First System for Recycling CDs and DVDs into Notebook PCs".

Fujitsu's new recycling program takes the polycarbonate material used in CDs and DVDs and uses them to create components of their laptop's bodies.

According to the company, the recycled plastic has already been used to create parts of the Lifebook P722/E.

The company estimates its new recycling system can reduce the amount of plastic waste by up to 10 tons per year. In addition, the company believes its manufacturing process will reduce CO2 emissions by 15% in comparison to standard laptop manufacturing processes.

Fujitsu also hopes to expand this green tech by including other materials in the future. More info on the process can be found on Fujitsu's blog.

I wonder if we could ship old CD's to them? I bet they would get a ton of those AOL CD's.
