LG Intros Optimus L9 Android 4.0 Smartphone

Following the success of the Optimus L3, Optimus L5, and Optimus L7 earlier this year, LG Electronics is keeping with tradition and launching the Optimus L9 on a global scale. The phone will stick to the L-Style design philosophy, sporting a 9.1-mm thin body with a slimming metallic streak and modern square style that offers a comfortable grip on all occasions.

"The Optimus L9 is a great smartphone that appeals to every consumer," said Dr. Jongseok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. "LG will continue to offer differentiated value through the Optimus L9 and strengthen our position in the smartphone market."

The phone will sport Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich," backed by a 1 GHz dual-core SoC, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 4.7-inch IPS Display. The phone will also sport a 5MP rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing camera, 4 GB of internal storage, and a high-density 2,150mAh SiO+ battery.

According to LG, the phone was also developed to be a "smarter" smartphone through differentiated UX features such as the QTranslator and My Style Keypad function along with QMemoTM.

"The QTranslator function instantly translates not only words, but also entire sentences and phrases with a simple scan from nearly 44 foreign languages to 64 user languages," LG said. "Using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, it recognizes letters upon scanning with the camera and utilizes electronic dictionary or online translation engine to translate words, sentences or phrases."

"The My Style Keypad function comfortably adjusts the key formation of the keypad according to whether the user is texting with one hand (right or left-handed) or two hands. Lastly, the Optimus L9 will also include the QMemoTM, allowing users to capture, memo and share their ideas with others using their fingertip or handwriting," the company added.

So far there's no word on actual availability and pricing, so stay tuned.

rectangular with rounded corners and the color white. That is an infringement on Apples two patents on rectangles and the color white since they invented them. Go get them patent troll Apple, because it is another phone that makes the iphone look inferior.

I am new to the smartphone world, I know it is the next greatest thing to have, but, in all honesty, when I look at one, I wouldn't know the first thing to do to "make a phone call".

In a panic, I'd still use my trusty land line rotary phone.

Um, it's silver. Some iPhones have silver parts. It's another Apple copy and they should be sued...

I really like LG phones. They do a very good job on their dumb phones and their low to mid-grade smart phones. I have had much more success with their products than Samsung. Only company I'd trust more with a phone is Nokia.
