During Google I/O, word got out that Google was gearing up to launch a white version of its Nexus 4 smartphone. Though the company didn't actually announce any new hardware at Google I/O, there was apparently a snow white version of the Nexus 4 floating around the developer conference like a stock Android-powered unicorn.
Reports at the time had this device pegged for a June release. Today, LG made the device official. The white Nexus 4 will arrive in stores on May 29.
"Nexus 4 set the standard for Android 4.2 Jelly Bean smartphones," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. "Nexus 4 White delivers the same Google experience to consumers in a stylish and attractive color option."
Unfortunately, the May 29 release date applies to Hong Kong only. LG says the phone will roll out globally across selected markets in Asia, North America, Europe and the Middle East over the coming weeks.
Unfortunately, it seems rumors that the white Nexus 4 would launch with Android 4.3 haven't come to fruition. Then again, that could change for the international launch, so stay tuned and we'll keep you posted on launch details for markets outside of Hong Kong. Previous reports had the phone's launch set for June 10, so it's possible North America will see the phone then.
