SuperTalent Combine SSD & HDD Technology in PCIe Solution

Super Talent has announced the arrival of two new hybrid storage solutions, the PP4192C12H and the PP4192C23H. The first of the lot is a unit with what we can assume to be a 2.5" 1 TB hard drive, while the latter is one which carries a 2 TB 3.5" hard drive. Both of the units carry a 192 GB caching SSD, which will allow the units to reach sequential read and write speeds of up to 800 MB/s. Of course, the standard SATA3 interface cannot provide this sort of bandwidth, so the units are driven through a PCIe interface. The idea of these units is to bring large storage to SSDs, while still being able to maintain reasonable performance.

The drives will be plug-and-play compatible, meaning that no drives will be needed to use them. This will allow them to be used in not only desktops, but also in NAS solutions and servers.

Super Talent gave no word on when the units would be coming to shelves, nor did it tell us anything about the pricing.

The 3.5" version looks too heavy to stay straight when installed. They should have put the HDD closer to the bracket.

Those cards look absolutely ridiculous.... Is this 2003? -_-

Great! now all i need to install the card is scaffolding. Might need to buy a hard hat just in case.

I can understand a SSD on PCIe for increased bandwidth but WTF is the point of a HD on PCIe?

They are HYBRID drives that use flash as cache.

This way, you get most of the benefit of SSD's performance without sacrificing space. The 2TB model will probably end up costing over $300 though.

    cough...REVODRIVE HYBRID... cough
The holy OCZ has been there.. done that..
(That sort of failed rather bad, look it up)

Hybrid drives are well within the bandwidth limitations of SATA III.

I'd rather have SSD and HDD separate and decide on what I want to load faster

That depends in the implementation. SuperTalent quotes 800MB/s for their hybrid drives which would exceed SATA3's theoretical capacity by about 33%.
