Archos Unveils 50c Oxygen: an Octa-core Phone at $199

First up is the is the 50c Oxygen, an octa-core smartphone that runs on MediaTek’s MT6592 SoC with a Cortex A7 CPU clocked to 1.7 GHz. It packs Mali 450MP4 graphics, a 5-inch 1280 X 720 display (293 ppi), 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of onboard storage with MicroSD support on top, an 8-megapixel camera in the back, a 2-megapixel camera up front, Support for GSM and HSPA+, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, and a 2,000 mAh battery. The standout feature here is clearly the processor. Everything else is fairly middle of the road when you look at the specs of currently available phones and rumors of upcoming flagship devices (like the Samsung Galaxy S5). It’s going to cost $199 at launch.

for $200 that doesnt look at all bad, but I have to ask, is Archos still crap in reliability and customer service?

It's not bad but it's horribly balanced. I would rather it have 4 cores clocked a bit higher with 2 GB of ram. Would make more sense.

Any Android phone must come with 1.5Gb RAM. Period. And is 8 gigs of available flash too much to ask?

    This MT6592 is a LITTLE.LITTLE HMP version of big.LITTLE HMP Instead of A17(2.2Ghz) A7(1.7Ghz) (MT6595) combo it's A7 A7 (1.7Ghz)

The HMP variation means any combination of the 8 cores can be used as needed instead of either 4 core cluster.

With 1 GB of RAM, you only need 2 cores. Have at LEAST 3GB of RAM, maybe 4GB.
