Netflix To Pump Up Blu-ray Selection

San Francisco (CA) - Netflix has said that it will start offering more Blu-ray Disc titles since it will no longer stock HD DVD.

"We should be requiring more of the Blu-Ray titles," said Netflix VP Steve Swassey, because, "We have a certain amount allocated for acquiring discs, and when we're not requiring one, we can put that amount toward acquiring the other."

Netflix, which previously supported both high-def formats, announced earlier this month that it would stop receiving new HD DVD titles. That announcement was followed quickly by similar HD DVD resignations from Best Buy, Toshiba, and most of the few remaining studios still backing the format.

The online rental service will continue to rent out HD DVD titles until its existing stock is depleted.
