We'd thought that optical technology had reached maturity and that we couldn't expect any further radical new developments. Indeed, mouse makers had been concentrating on design and ergonomics for some time, while new technologies took a back seat. But Logitech didn't see things like that. In association with its partner Agilent Technologies, who invented the optical sensor, they've developed the laser mouse.
Sounds off-the-wall and gimmicky, like maybe the folks at those two companies should stop playing the Star Wars trilogy in a continuous loop? A look at the science behind optical technology, in fact, shows what the laser has to offer the PC mouse.
