LG Announces 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro, U.S. Launch Due Q2

LG has officially announced its 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro smartphone, which has been confirmed for a U.S. launch sometime during 2013's second quarter.

The Optimus G Pro sports a 5.5-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 pixel AMOLED screen with a resolution of 400 pixels per inch. It's powered by a quad-core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor and 2 GB of RAM. It'll run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

A removable 3,140 mAh battery, which is compatible with wireless charging, allows users to view full HD video "for hours on end," LG said. A 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with an LED flash is joined by a 2.1-megapixel front-facing snapper.

Other features include 32 GB of storage and Dual Recording functionality that "allows users to capture video with both the front and rear cameras simultaneously for a unique picture-in-picture experience," accompanied by the Virtual Reality Panorama camera feature that "allows shots of entire horizontal and vertical environments for a full 360 [degree] view."

"The Optimus G Pro was developed specifically to deliver vivid and superb picture quality in a large display smartphone form factor," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics. "We will continue to expand our position in the premium LTE smartphone segment with our superior display technology and unique user experience."

LG will show off the Optimus G Pro next week at the Mobile World Congress (February 25 - 28), as well as its L Series II lineup.

otacon72So you like having a smartphone that will never fit in any pocket? um ok Anything over 4-4.2" is a waste. Anything more than a dual core is a waste too.
Skinny jeans? My Galaxy Nexus with Ballistic case fits fine in my pockets.

My Note 2 fits just fine in my back pocket on the occasion that it is convenient to pocket it. I don't wanna walk around with a phone in my front pocket. Sheesh. I have a beltable case I can use when desired. Sound weird? I'm not in my teens or twenties (or thirties while we're at it). This desire to stick everything in the front pants pocket (and not even wear a wrist watch) is for the young and young at heart. I am neither.
