Valve Officially Reveals List of Steam Machine Partners

Here are the Steam Machines thus far.

Monday night Valve Software officially revealed thirteen Steam Machine designs that are now in production and aiming at a target window of 2H 2014. Looking at the list, gamers will have a wide variety to choose from, seemingly starting at $499 and shooting up into the double Grover Cleveland digits. Graphic options span all three GPU makers, and the minimum amount of RAM seems to be 8 GB.

"The first generation Steam Machines offers something for every gamer, which is a critical part of extending Steam into the living room," said Gabe Newell of Valve. "With over 3,000 games and more than 65 million gamers on Steam, it's important to offer gamers a variety of Steam Machines that allow them to select what makes the most sense for them."

While we've already covered several Steam Machine builds here on Tom's, below are basic specs of each one to give an idea of what Steam Machines will offer. The only one missing on this list is Maingear, which Valve confirmed is a Steam Machine manufacturer Monday night, but didn't have a prototype to show yet.

    Often very small form factor, console like size. However it still features (mostly) full fledged desktop performance. Also, it is running steam OS by default. Else there isn't much difference. Unsure if you get the controller with the steam machine though.

    it comes with steam os out of the box and a steam controller. In other words this is more meant for people who don't assemble there own computers.

    Steam, if your reading this.... FOR CRYING OUT LOUD FIX THE CURRENT ISSUES THAT YOU ALREADY HAVE REGARDING THE THOUSANDS OF INCOMPATIBILITIES AND ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN RAISED BY YOUR CUSTOMER BASE AND FIX IT! Then when you've fixed that, MAYBE will have some faith in this machine, till then count my money out!

    Size of the case. Same pc hardware, but these cases are purpose built for the exact parts inside. You can Build a small ITX system yourself but at this point, Noone of them are as small as the Alienware case for example. As for the operating system, Unlike the Xbox or playstation OS, SteamOS is a free download and is open to anyone to install on a system.

    What is the point of a steam machine?? call me retard or M$ fanboy or anything else ,still I can't understand why I should buy a machine to stream my windows games to my HDTV ,I can already do that with WiDi ,some may say that these machinese can be used to play games made for Steam OS ,which means Linux games ,again ,does that justify paying a premium to play a very limited ( or extremly limited infact) library of old ,indi or B ranked titles?Ok ,Steam OS is great and Steam Machines rocks and all ,but as most gamers nowdays are interested in some titles that Steam does'nt even distirbute in the first place ,infact 2 of the most important games in the last deacde ( Battle Field and Star Craft) are not available on Steam ,and as I heard ( I don't remeber so please don't ask me when and where) UbiSoft is preparing its own Steam-Like network ,so the three major PC games distirbuters will not release thier games on Steam ( Blizzard have Battle.net ,EA Origin ,and soon Ubi).So please for the God sake ,any one can tell me why I should buy a Steam Machine??!!

    I'm not sold into these things. In early days of development, I saw images of Valve's own Steam Box with their own casing and all. Now this? It's just basically all their own brands custom PC installed with Steam OS and come with the controller. God...It is basically just like Android in the form of custom build PCs. Lots of smartphones brand with their own spec, running the same Android OS and their own pricing.I better off building my own mini ITX build and install Steam OS if I want a taste of it (heck, one of them is using BitFenix and fractal design cases) than paying a hefty price for their custom build scam. Yes I do believe Valve has a very good intention about bringing PC gaming into the living room, but with all this hype, manufacturers of custom build PC basically just using this momentum to sell more and more of their existing product under the name of "Steam Box". Marketing scam to me.
