Benchmark Results: Applications
While we couldn’t get under one minute, our overclocking efforts awarded a massive reduction in the time needed to render one 1080P frame in 3D Studio Max.
Applying filters in Photoshop again yields a good time savings by not sticking with the CPU’s default clock speeds.
Thus far we breezed through one application after another and saw huge performance increases for our efforts, but in AVG our little dual-core clock speed boost didn’t reduce our scan time by much.
WinRAR file compression also just delivered a modest performance increase compared to other applications. It’s clearly going to take more than just a CPU and FSB frequency boost to lower these times.
We finish off our application suite with Winzip file compression, and the job finished almost a minute quicker on the overclocked $500 PC than it did at stock speeds.
