Driven by attempts to shrink costs and enhance competitiveness, leading CMOS image sensor makers are said to extend their production from CMOS image sensors to module production, according to industry sources. Most CMOS image sensor makers used to focus only on sensor production in the past, with sensors being shipped to module makers for assembly to be used in handsets, digital cameras and surveillance applications.
