ViewSonic VP171s

1:05 PM - 07/20/2005 by Benoit Dupont

The little brother of the VP191b shares the same physical components. It displays similar characteristics to today's king of monitors. But its 8ms are ISO and not GTG. Does the VP171s have the measure of its big 19" brother?

Viewsonic VP171s

Design

The design of the VP171s is very close to that of the VP191b. It has an adjustable stand, a pivot and the same style of shell. The finish is very professional. The fact that the pretty face of this "little" monitor is standing on the shoulders of its stable mate doesn't go unnoticed.

Ergonomics

Let's not beat around the bush, the ergonomics of the VP171s are the best of this bunch. The VP171s is adjustable in height and inclination. It's also equipped with a very practical pivot. The buttons are easily accessible; the OSD is easy to control. But it's missing - as always with Viewsonic - a readout for percentage adjustment.

Equipment

Double VGA connections, a DVI interface and an integrated transformer represent additional top-rate features this monitor offers. There aren't any loudspeakers, but who cares. On the other hand, a USB hub would have been a welcome addition.
