With the recent release of Serious Sam HD: the First Encounter and a HD version of Second Encounter also slated for a 2010 release, rumors of an actual third installment have been floating around for days. Talk of Serious Sam 3 is nothing new, but the release of the recent HD version sparked a new interest in the once-rumored game.
So is it just rumor? No. According to Destructoid, Croteam boss Roman Ribaric said that Serious Sam 3 is definitely in the works, and that more information regarding the game will be released soon. "Serious Sam 3 is happening for sure," Ribaric said. "It is currently planned to be finished in 2010."
Developed by Croteam, the original Serious Sam game was published for the PC back on March 2001. Rather than rely on a heavy plot, the infamous first-person shooter borrowed heavily from the "arcade" gameplay elements of older PC games such as Quake and Doom. Serious Sam: The Second Encounter trailed the initial installment in February 2002, followed by Serious Sam II in 2005.
Although Serious Sam 3 is expected in 2010, it's a safe bet it won't arrive until after The Second Encounter HD is released.
