Acer's Android Iconia Tab 8 Runs on Intel's Atom Z3745
Just before Computex kicks off in Taipei, Acer introduced the Iconia Tab 8, an 8-inch tablet running Android 4.4 "KitKat" on an Intel Atom Z3745 quad-core processor. Currently, the price is unknown, but Acer plans to ship this tablet in Q3 2014.
"Acer's underlying goal is to provide a wide portfolio of devices with great value and superb functionality that improves people's lives," said Maverick Shih, president of Acer's BYOC and Tablet Business Group. "Today, Acer has the strongest touch portfolio in the industry and continues to expand it to bring happiness to the many, not just the few."
Unfortunately, the company is short on details regarding the hardware. The tablet will feature an 8-inch IPS screen with a Full HD resolution, and Zero Gap Technology, which promises to reduce reflections, thus presenting a brighter display. The screen will also have an anti-fingerprint coating to reduce nasty smudges and unintentional PIN tracks.
The company revealed on Friday that the tablet will include dual speakers, Wireless N connectivity, a microSD card slot, and a battery promising up to 7.5 hours of life on a single charge. The device will also sport an anodized silver metal back cover and a slim profile (0.33 inches thin). The tablet will weigh a mere 0.793 pounds.
There's a good chance we'll see more of this tablet during the show in Taipei, so stay tuned for more info.
