One of the main attractions, aside from more CPU cores and PCI-Express lanes, of Intel's new X99 platform is access to quad-channel DDR4 memory. Today, Kingston upped the ante a bit on DDR4 memory by launching an incredibly speedy and large-capacity kit.
Featuring a total capacity of 128 GB and running at a respectable 3000 MHz, the 128 GB HyperX Predator DDR4 kit is, according to Kingston, the fastest 128 GB memory kit in existence.
The kit runs at 16-16-16-36 timings with an XMP profile, which Kingston managed to set with an MSI X99 MPOWER motherboard loaded with an Intel Core i7-5820K processor. The XMP profile should enable this performance on any X99 motherboard that also has enough slots.
Of course, there are faster DDR4 modules available, but remember, this kit is built with eight large 16 GB modules. There aren't even that many 16 GB DDR4 modules out there, and most of those top out at much lower frequencies.
Do note that we can't expect the 128 GB HyperX Predator DDR4 to come cheap. For that matter, we're not even sure it will come at all, as Kingston mentioned in the press release that it "created" the kit, not that it's available. If it does come to market, though, expect it to cost more than $1,000, possibly approaching or exceeding two grand. (Yeah, this isn't a kit you'll buy just for bragging rights.)
