System Builder Marathon: Sub-$1000 PC

Applications

3D Studio Max was one of the first programs we noted for being quad-core optimized, but our previous build barely leads Intel’s low-cost dual core.

Cinema4D favors quads as well, so anyone running either 3D Studio Max or Cinema 4D would be well advised to spend the extra money on their CPU and save on some other component.

Like most other programs in today’s test suite, Adobe Photoshop appears to lack proper quad-core support and favors the cheap dual-core of our current build.

Shelton had made a configuration error in our previous AVG test, so the new results should be considered separately from the old.

WinRAR provides final proof that quad-cores are unnecessary for most enthusiasts, favoring the current dual-core by a small amount.
