Alienware m15x: True Gaming Portability?

Applications: Audio And Video

The smaller and lighter Alienware Area-51 m15x takes a small lead in iTunes AAC and Lame MP3 encoding.

For DVD quality footage, Studio 11 and TMPG prefer the hefty, Windows XP equipped Dell over the similarly-configured, Vista loaded Area-51 m15x.

Clone DVD shrinks a dual-layer disk to a single-layer format slightly faster with the Alienware m15x.

With older formats behind us we can now move on to HD video.

The Area-51 m15x beat its big-brother Dell system in MainConcept H.264 encoding, but by too little to judge the results significant. Rounding differences could potentially make these systems swap places in consecutive tests.

Windows Media 9 appears to heavily favor Windows XP. There’s no other excuse for the huge difference seen here, given that both systems had the same processor and memory configuration.
