Portable Storage Makes An Impact
Portable storage always makes a great gift. The variety of keychain oriented, flash storage devices (with greater amounts of storage) for PCs are an excellent choice this holiday season.
This is an example of the M-Systems OEM version, but these devices come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. The important thing is to get a large one that offers USB 2.0 support.
While many computer users already own one of these flash storage devices, the majority of them are not the larger-sized USB 2.0 compatible devices. The new offerings are much faster, because of their USB 2.0 support, and are available in much larger capacity. At the moment, we tend to favor products from M-System, known as the Disk-On-Key products.
Two of the most popular include Iomega with the Mini, and Fuji with USB Drive. The Disk-On-Key products feature compatibility with M-System's application called "MyKey" and "KeySafe," which offer a better value over many of the other products available.
External storage continues to be popular. Let's face it, who could not use an additional 120 GB ever now and then. The Series II USB 2.0 external units from Western Digital offer the swank replaceable colored face plates in addition to some of the best prices with rebates that we have seen this holiday season.
Flash storage isn't the only thing making a big splash this holiday season. Who on your gift list would not appreciate some extra storage? Western Digital is doing an excellent job of addressing this with some exciting rebates on these types of products. The USB Series II External Hard Drive products feature new interchangeable faceplates that are currently all the rage. In addition, some retail outlets are advertising sales on USB Series I External Hard Drive products in order to clearance them out to make room for the new Series II products. Western Digital continues to offer the Combo External drive products that offer both a USB and 1394/Firewire connection. Sizes on these products range from as small as 80 GB to as large as 250 GB, depending on the type you select. It should be noted that both Maxtor and Seagate have external storage products available, as well.
