Medal of Honor PC Open Beta in Early October

The open beta will contain two maps and two multiplayer modes.

EA announced Friday that an open multiplayer beta test for Medal of Honor (PC) will start on October 4. The test will include two "diverse" maps and two multiplayer modes, and will conclude on October 7 at 11:59pm PST. PC gamers interested in getting a little early taste will be able to download the client here.

According to EA, the two maps were inspired by real world locations: Kunar Base and Shahikot Mountains. "Kunar Base" will be played using the Sector Control multiplayer mode in which two sides fight to control tactical sectors on the map. The other map, "Shahikot Mountains," will feature the Combat Missions multiplayer mode, pitting teams of twelve against each other as they battle through a series of objectives.

"The Open Beta of the Medal of Honor multiplayer mode will allow players to sample the authenticity and adrenaline-fueled action that the full game will offer on October 12," said Frank Gibeau, President of EA Games Label. "We also hope that by offering the Multiplayer Open Beta, we can clear up any misunderstanding about the patriotism and respect that are the foundation of this game. The Medal of Honor franchise has always shown extraordinary reverence for American and Allied soldiers--this game is no exception."

EA also provided a list of recommended system requirements for the optimal experience:

  • Operating System: Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7
  • Processor: Quad core 2.0 GHz
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM+
  • Video Card: A video card with 512 MB of VRAM and one of the following chipsets: Nvidia GeForce GTX260; ATI Radeon 4870
  • HDD Space: 2 GB
  • Soundcard: Soundcard with DirectX 10 compatibility
  • DirectX: DirectX 10
  • Disc Drive: 16X CD/DVD Drive

    I wonder why the recommended requirements only mentions DX10, since Medal of Honor can make use of DX11.

    The first batch of Dx11 card can barely provide enough fps for a race game (ie dirt 2)

    My 5850 in heavenly benchmark doesn't get enough fps to play a shooter over 60 fps.

    I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEW HD 6XXX SERIESSSSSS !!! :) And Dx11 games too :)

    People can keep making their comparisons of this game to MW2 and BF2 but in the end, this is the game that we should have gotten with Infinity Ward, and this is the game we are now getting from DICE. Its more expensive than it should be, but the game is great, give it a try.

    Something is wrong with your 5850 because my factory default one runs everything I've tried on max and >40 fps except Metro 2033. That includes Crysis and Bad Company 2.

    My 5750 will play NFS Shift at 1920x1200 with 8xAA, 60 fps limited my monitor, does drop to 35-40 fps when colliding with other car's, most likely my Athlon7750 2.7ghz cpu is the bottleneck there. Dirt2 plays ok also.

    Would be better to state minimum rather than recommended system requirements ie will it run on XP ,duel core, dx9 & what's so special about soundcard DirectX 10 compatibility ?

    That's good news. I'll never say no try out a game where DICE is involved! It definitely looks like one of the better recent MoH games.
