Today at CES 2009, Samsung unveiled its brand-spanking new 22-inch, 120Hz 3D monitor compatible with Nvidia's new Geforce 3D Vision. Someone touch me, please.
According to the company, the Samsung 2233RZ will be available in April 2009 for an MSRP of $349, boasting a refined, streamlined, and unique design. But unlike many other widescreen monitors, the Samsung 2233RZ displays 5:4 and 4:3 images at accurate aspect ratios without enlargement or distortion. A thin, glossy black bezel houses the display, looking stylish and ultra cool on anyone's desktop. However, the monitor's best feature has to be its compatibility with Nvidia's new GeForce 3D Vision graphics card.
“More users are enjoying higher performance games and movies using high-performance graphic boards,” said R.A. Atanus, Vice President of Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics’ Information Technology Division. “As entertainment content becomes more available, the need for hardware technology to maintain increasing volumes of software content becomes more important. Combining this new 3D technology with Samsung’s LCD monitor creates an optimal viewing tool – for uses ranging from teaching and using 3D modeling to playing the latest video games.”
Samsung says that its new monitor, in conjunction with Nvidia's GeForce software, automatically converts over 350 games to stereoscopic 3D without additional patches. The active shutter glasses are the key, delivering double the resolution per eye (at 60Hz) and ultra-wide viewing angles. But consumers who already wear prescription glasses need not fret: the 3D glasses will fit "just right" without getting too annoying; adjustable nose pieces are also included to accommodate any offensive schnoz. The company also stated that the glasses charge through a standard USB port, and can last for an entire week, minimizing battery replacement.
Other notable features include a 1680 x 1050 native resolution, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 170o/160o (CR>10) viewing angle, GTG 3ms (3D) / 5ms(2D) of response time, and a 120 Hz dual engine.
Samsung said that the 3D monitor would be available through Samsung resellers and distribution channels.
