Adata, a manufacturer of various memory and storage products, has revealed its upcoming flagship, M.2 SSD. The series will be known under the cryptic SR1020NP series name.
The SSDs will come in sizes up to 1 TB on a single 80 mm long PCB. Aboard will be an LSI-SandForce 3700 series controller.
The SSD is wired with not two, but four PCI-Express 2.0 lanes. This will allow it to achieve significantly higher throughput rates. However, it may take up a couple too many lanes for users to run their primary graphics card with the full 16 lanes. In practice, no difference will be noticed in graphical performances when dialing down to eight PCI-Express 3.0 lanes. Supposedly, most motherboards only have two PCI-Express lanes wired to the M.2 slot, so this series of SSDs won't reach their full potential on many motherboards.
If you do find the right motherboard, the SandForce controller aboard is reported to be able to push up to 1.8 GB/s for sequential transfers.
Additional details are still needed, but hopefully, we'll see and learn more about this unit at Computex 2014.
