Apple's New Adapter Will Charge Your iPad Faster

Apple announced a whole host of new products this week, among them a new iPad, an iPad mini, a new MacBook Pro, a new Mac mini and a new iMac. The iPad mini was probably the biggest news, considering the tech industry has been talking about the possibility of a smaller iPad for what seems like an age. The new iPad was also a bit of a surprise, if only for the fact that the iPad 3 isn't even a year old and now it's, well, old. However, what you may not know is that Apple's new iPads also come with a new adapter.

Apple currently has a new 12W power adapter listed on its website and those buying a new iPad will receive one of these new chargers in the box. According to 9to5Mac, the company has confirmed that it will charge your old iPad faster than the previous generation 10W charger, which took a while to bring the iPad to a full battery.

"We don't have an exact percentage of how much faster it would charge but you should see an increase in speed," a spokesperson is quoted as saying.

If you're looking to replace your old 10W charger from your last gen iPad, you'll have to pay for the adapter. It's listed for $19 on Apple's website.

    Well, here is the thing.

Just how much faster going from 10 watts to 12 watts in terms of charging power? Not much.

It's all marketing bull that people think it's fantastic. Geezez.

Ah well. Glad that we aren't forced to buy into such nonsense.

I'm just amazed that a new Apple charger is seriously considered news here. "OMG, Apple has a new charger. It's new! OMG. I can't believe it. It's 12W. The old one was 10W. So it's 2W betterer! OMG". And yes, I realize I didn't have to click on the story. But, seriously - a new charger is considered "news"? Seriously? Really?
