While at a petrol station filling her car up with gas, a woman was conned into buying a piece of mirror instead of an iPad for $200.
Jalonta Freeman from Arlington, Texas was at a gas station when a man drove up to her and offered an $800 iPad for a just $200. Naturally, the woman jumped on the chance to grab a bargain.
However, she just paid $200 for a piece of mirror instead. Still, wouldn't one have been suspicious if someone offered you such a good deal? The woman didn't check the box to see if an actual iPad was inside, and instead immediately paid the con artist for the device. I wouldn't know a better case for "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" phrase.
"He was, like, OK, I gotta hurry up and go and stuff," she told KXAS-TV. It was when she began to drive away that she decided to open the box much to her disappointment.
The back of of her shiny new mirror looked like an iPad, but the front didn't. A piece of paper, when stripped back, revealed the true content of the box. "That's messed up. That's so wrong," Freeman said. "I would never do anybody like that. Get a job."
I would say fooling someone into giving $200 for a mirror probably is his job and similar jobs are fairly common, actually; a South Carolina woman paid $180 for what she thought was an iPad in a McDonald's parking lot last year -- she received wood instead.
