MSI Now Part of iBUYPOWER's Optiboost Program

Computer manufacturer MSI Computer Corp. announced on Tuesday that it has signed a deal to be a part of iBUYPOWER's new Optiboost program, which officially launched just weeks ago. MSI's GP60 and GP70 Leopard, the GT70 Dominator and GT70 Dominator Pro, and the GE70 Apache Pro are all eligible in the Optiboost program.

According to iBUYPOWER, the company has an exclusive partnership with MSI to receive bare versions of the listed notebooks instead of off-the-shelf, fully loaded models. This allows iBUYPOWER to customize the machines using high end parts. This method is said to be cheaper than if the competition tries to alter a complete solution.

According to MSI, customers will be able to configure their systems by upgrading the processor, memory, video card, hard drive, optical drive and wireless networking adapter. Customers can also customize the laptop with peripherals, software and operating system. This way, you get what you want instead of the pre-built hardware sets offered through MSI and its retailer/e-tailer partners.

"The level of customization we're giving to customers, delivered with exceptional price-performance value, means users will be able to build to order without the added cost of buying whole and then removing what you don't need," said Darren Su, Vice President of iBUYPOWER. "MSI and iBUYPOWER recognize that there's no better experience than getting something customized just for you. With Optiboost, we're delivering exactly what you want without the things you don't."

For gamers who want a gaming laptop, this sounds like a good deal, since you can't get this kind of customization through MSI's website. As an example, the GP60 Leopard features Windows 8.1, an Intel Core i5-4200M processor, Nvidia GeForce GT 840M GPU, 8 GB of DDR3L 1600 MHz memory, a 750 GB hard drive and Killer E2200 networking. All this can be changed in the Optiboost program.

"Individuality is a big part of the mobile gaming experience and MSI is confident that iBUYPOWER's Optiboost program will deliver the ideal combination of customized performance and value," said Andy Tung, President of MSI Pan America. "We are making mobile gaming personal again."

For more information about MSI and the Optiboost program, head here. Note that customers who purchase an Optiboost-qualified MSI laptop will also receive a free Interceptor DS100 mouse and Sistorm Gaming mouse mat. The deal ends July 4, 2014 or while supplies last, whichever comes first.

Gigabyte is also an Optiboost participant.

    Anyone else think this when they read the article, "But doesn't MSI already offer the best equipment possible within the notebook in that price range?" I really don't see how iBuyPower can make the parts selection any better than what MSI already stuck inside there.
    MSI overdoes the parts selection to an absurd degree apart from maybe a 5400RPM HDD. I mean what company even thinks 3 eSata SSDs in Raid0 is a good idea? I'll tell you, its MSI because it ain't worth doing unless its overkill that may kill your system.

    I would think this is a partnership built upon mutual gain. iBuyPower gets a better entrance into the laptop market, MSI gets to increase its market share by potentially capturing some of iBP's customer base, and further it will allow MSI to run more efficient builds of say 5-6 different configurations ad nauseum and allow iBP to handle any custom builds. It might even allow them to enter into the mainstream big box retailer market. Just a thought; it might not be a popular one or one that is correct, but a thought none-the-less.

    Steve Simons is exactly right regarding the custom builds. If consumers prefer an MSI laptop (especially with that sexy red and black trimming), we give consumers the choice to customize what goes inside their laptop. Most of the configurations are pre-set, but we give you the option to expand your hard drive capacity, RAM, and upgrade your processor.
