Sony Shuts Down Evolution Studios, 'Driveclub' Lives On

Evolution Studios, longtime racing developer of fan favorites MotorStorm and World Rally Championship, has closed. The closure comes only a year after the studio lost half its staff to redundancies. The racing developer's most recent title, Driveclub, was beset with delays and online connectivity issues and was likely the reason behind Evolution Studio’s closing.

Sony’s decision to close Evolution Studios came after a regular review of every developer within Sony. In its official statement, Sony lamented the loss of Evolution Studio’s “high calibre staff” and said it “will try to reallocate people” where possible.

For fans of Driveclub, the developer’s closure may come as a shock. Fortunately, Jamie Brayshaw, the Senior Community Manager for Evolution Studios, tweeted thatDriveclub will live on under the care of the awesome team at Playstation and we hope it will continue to thrive in their safe hands and with continued support from all of you.”

This game is just a PS4 tech demo eye candy. Kind of like NFS. Gameplay just suck for this game. The (free) updated The Crew offer more content and fun than DriveClub.

I did really want this game to succeed. I've been dying to see a competitive racer in the vein of Forza for a long time now, and I was hoping this game would be it. But, I feel in the end the 30FPS lock, bad AI, wonky controls and poor connectivity hurt it a lot.

They did do a good job of fixing up most of those issues well after launch, but it's too bad that in this industry, first impressions are everything.

They should have just made another Motorstorm. Those games were way more fun than Driveclub

Driveclub looks good and that's it. It's a boring game, I'd rather play The Crew, that is after they fixed it. Trying to push games out the door faster and faster instead of spending the time to make something decent is pointless. Yearly updated series all suck.
