The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful: 17" LCDs Reviewed
Hard To Adjust
Calibration of our XL775D showed average results:
65% of the colors were rendered perfectly; 4% of the colors had a DeltaE of above 2. Not an unqualified success. Not surprisingly, the darkest colors suffered the most. But beyond the result, it's the method we had to use to attain it that's at issue. We had to fiddle with all the color adjustments one by one via the OSD. Not exactly what you'd call Plug 'n' Play.
White spot | Black spot | Contrast |
---|---|---|
0.55 | 200 | 366:1 |
The values for black and white after calibration, however, were close to ideal. A luminance of 200 cd/m² is very good, and a black spot at 0.55 cd/m² is quite tolerable, and even better than what Sony or LG managed.
The possibilities for adjusting the brightness of your XL775D to suit your environment are sufficient. Contrast will remain stable from 20% to 80%, according to our test.
