Amazon: Nokia 808 Pureview to Hit UK Next Week

Nokia might have made headlines last week with the revelation that its working on a Windows Phone device with its PureView technology, but the original PureView phone, the 808 PureView, is still alive and kicking and apparently ready to hit the UK in the not to distant future.

The 808 PureView was first unveiled in March and since then there's been ample talk of a UK launch, including rumors of an April launch. However, it looks like we might finally have a solid date for this monster camera phone. According to Amazon UK, the phone will launch before the end of the month.

Amazon currently has the Nokia 808 PureView listed with a June 30 release date, which is Saturday week. The price tag Amazon is putting on the phone is £499.98, which is the SIM-free version.

The 808 PureView boasts 1.3GHz single-core chip, 512MB of RAM, 16GB of storage (expandable via microSD) and a 4-inch display. It also has that all important 41-megapixel sensor with Carl Zeiss optics, 4X zoom and the ability to record full 1080p HD. Nokia is using the sensor to target enthusiasts and offer them the opportunity to take high-res close-ups and the ability to crop without sacrificing quality.

  • Why have a headline of "Nokia 808 Pureview to Hit UK Next Week" when by your own admission it is only the current date slated by Amazon - up until yesterday they had June 21st as the date. Stop reporting things as fact in your headline and taking people unnecessarily to your site.

This WOULD be a nice phone if it didn't have the dying / dead symbian OS in it. Now give me 720p resolution and at least 32GBs of space preferably Meego as an OS or even Android will do. That would be the perfect phone...

There's a reason for every decision made, and you clearly did not read the news article on Tom's sometime back - they said they wanted to first try out the concept on a Symbian phone. Nokia has 10+ years of experience on Symbian while they have less than 2 years of experience on WP7. Of course they'd stick with their tried and true platform to test out the waters first.
