VisionTek's External mSATA Enclosure is Tiny

VisionTek has built a new external storage enclosure that's quite different from other offerings on the market. The VisionTek mSATA Mini Enclosure, as its name indicates, is an external enclosure for mSATA drives. The unit itself is quite simple – on the outside it's a small box with a Micro USB 3.0 interface and inside you'll find an mSATA slot. It has support for up to SATA3 (6 Gb/s) devices, so a speedy enough mSATA SSD will comfortably be able to max out the USB 3.0 interface, bringing some very high transfer speeds.

VisionTek is hoping those with smaller caching SSDs lying around (say, after swapping them out for larger mSATA SSDs in laptops) will be able to use the enclosure to repurpose those SSDs as boot drives.

The unit is priced at $29.99 and is available immediately directly from VisionTek. It will soon be coming to select retailers.

Great value if you are buying a razer blade laptop. You can buy a razer blade with 512GB for $2700 from razer or you can buy the 128GB edition for $2200, then buy a samsung 1TB msata for $540, the enclosure $20 (total $2760)

    -or-

kingston charges $1000 for 1tb usb flash drive or you can buy this and 1tb samsung mSata for $20 + $540 = $560
