Modder brings full Nvidia DLSS 5 suite to three generations of AMD gaming GPUs — plans to match native Nvidia GPU performance
Radeon users finally get to enjoy more DLSS features.
The DLSS-NR project on AMD by Daniel Blanco was first released on September 3, 2026, bringing DLSS 5 Neural Rendering to Radeon GPUs; in the latest 0.8.0 update, however, it makes all the main DLSS features available, featuring DLSS SR, Frame Generation, Ray Regeneration, and the newest DLSS NR model, along with more performance improvements.
While AMD has equivalents for most DLSS features like FSR upscaling, frame generation, ray regeneration, and anti-lag, it’s not as commonly supported by most games compared to Nvidia’s offerings. Even if players could use the AMD equivalent features, Neural Rendering is one that AMD just doesn’t have an equivalent for yet, which is why mods like DLSS-NR on AMD were made.
Daniel Blanco wanted to fill the gap with NR in its initial release, but in the latest update, he added all the DLSS features: DLSS Ray Reconstruction, Super Resolution 4.5, Frame Generation, and the latest 310.9.16 improved Neural Rendering build that we covered recently with modders using it on unsupported games. Interestingly, the update notes say it includes FSR 4.1.1 upscaling; AMD GPUs already use FSR, but having FSR 4.1.1 specifically gives the mod a consistent version of FSR to work with, instead of having to be compatible with the various implementations of FSR in different scenarios.
The mod currently supports three generations of Radeon GPUs: RX 9000, 7000, and 6000 (RDNA4, 3, and 2, respectively), in any DirectX 12 game that uses FSR, DLSS, or XeSS. You can install the mod by downloading the NeuralHub mod loader, which provides a UI for you to install it into the games it detects. You then enable FSR, DLSS, or XeSS in the game, and the mod will insert itself into that upscaler pipeline, allowing it to inject any of the settings you configured for the game in the NeuralHub; it even provides an overlay to tweak the DLSS settings without leaving the game.
With a few improvements from the first version, the developer says the output quality is very similar to what DLSS produces on Nvidia GPUs natively, except for “some effects that may not be working 100%.” In the developer’s own testing, he found it to be playable at 90-100FPS at 1080p on an RX 9070 XT, while saying that he’s making improvements every day, planning to match the performance of a 5070Ti.
Real-world results are mixed, however, as Reddit users report showing no performance loss over native FSR, while others experience losing single-digit FPS to up to 25% lower FPS in various games. The developer still has to account for many factors since there are a myriad of PC configurations, but the results look promising as he bridges the gap between AMD and Nvidia GPU features — though it won’t work with anti-cheat, unfortunately.

blppt I don't get it, one guy manages to put this together as a pet project, and AMD can't come up with this stuff on their own?Reply -

AMD has.
AMD and Nvidia only will copy the free cheap labor and and adjust these new fake frames -

I don't think Nvidia cares.blppt said:Then I'd imagine Nvidia would be shutting him down in short order.
As long as someone is using their software then their software programmers have done their job.
Despite how fancy CUDA and DLSS 5 is, don't forget, Nvidia is at its core a hardware selling company.
DLL injection, as the last line hints at, makes this almost instantly bannable in multiplayer games which sees any DLL altering as an attempt to cheat.
If someone wants to use DLSS 5 in a popular multiplayer game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 then they are forced to use Nvidia.
If they use this mod to make it work in other single player games and it turns out to work really well then that entices them even more to buy one of the Nvidia graphics cards for use in multiplayer games.
On top of that the author even says compatibility isn't 100% with Reddit users also weighing in with some downsides. -

It gets really hard when the person doing it is not doing it for money. They will spend lots of money on lawyers and recover none of it. They run the risk that suing the little guy will be bad publicity and he might get massive funding with gofundme. If it gets too big they get a lot of people looking at the patent they are trying to enforce and someone might find a defect in their patent and they lose big. They are better off just collecting data for the future and if it really becomes a issue they can call the lawyers.blppt said:Then I'd imagine Nvidia would be shutting him down in short order.
Right now nvidia only care about how much money they can make on AI. -

1. AI helped him with the coding and made it possible, making this program an advertisement for AI. Which does Nvidia care more about? AI or gaming?
2. AI did it the same way AI usually does, by taking others material as data and modifying it. If Nvidia sues some guy for using AI as it is intended, then what good is AI if it can't use other people's data without permission? There could be a legal precedent set that protects IP holders over AI users.
Nvidia would lose far more than it could keep and the main creator of this particular IP theft industry having its IP kind of stolen by its creation is uncommonly fitting.
It would make a good fable in a childrens book.
I hope they get it working for Arc. According to Techpowerup my A750 has more FP16 and INT8 than a 5070, 3090 or 9070GRE, and far more than a 7900XTX. -
PEnns The wishes of billions of gamers crying and praying to the highest heavens for a chance to kill the performance of their GPUs have been finally answered!!Reply
But hey, now they can see a puddle's reflection at 20 -25 FPS!! -

Software is what makes Nvidia better than the rivals and they care a lot. AMD has more power on these chip out here but every one wait years to software mature.derekullo said:I don't think Nvidia cares.
It's why they keep selling the rx580 like hot cakes. It's old but still working like day one. -

They can give the software away for free as long as it runs best on Nvidia hardware.
If Nvidia really wanted a monopoly on DLSS 5 then they could have done any number of methods to impede the progress for non-nvidia graphics cards.
But they didn't do a thing short of having their hardware better positioned for AI use.
HuggingFace fits into this somewhere lol
