Iomega's REV Marks Leap Forward For External Drives

The Disks: Square, Practical... Good?

In our estimation, the REV disks are just as robust or sensitive as streamer tapes. With appropriate handling, nothing should prevent them from being used for quite a few years. The durability of up to 30 years claimed by Iomega must be viewed with skepticism, however, because after such a long period of time, it's probable that not even USB interfaces will be available any more. In any case, after a certain period of time (roughly 10 years), you should copy important data to the most current data memory system at that time.
