Spring Speed Leap: AMD Athlon64 FX-53
2.6 GHz Off The Bat
Even without using special cooling systems, we were able to ratchet the Athlon64 FX-53 up to 2.6 GHz without further ado. The processor promised even more, but time pressures forced us, for the time being, to end our push for the limit. The FX overclocked to 2.6 GHz is in any event faster than a P4 Extreme Edition running at 3.4 GHz, without taking applications that take advantage of HyperThreading into account.
However, our overclocking results cannot be applied verbatim to all widely available processors. As in the days of the Pentium 166, a little bit of luck is also needed.
All results at 2.6 GHz are listed in the benchmark section.
Gigabyte's mobo was conducive to changing themultiplier.
