HP Reveals ENVY Rove20 Specs; Available Sunday

Remember that mobile AIO PC HP teased back in May called the ENVY Rove20? It's back, and this time the company has provided firm specs to get your wallet heated up. We're still not sure if we want to lug a 20-inch device around the house like an oversized mutant tablet, but its 10-point touch capability definitely screams multiplayer action on a virtual board game.

According to the company, the ENVY Rove20 will sport a 20 inch IPS widescreen HD+ panel powered by an Intel Core i3 "Haswell" processor. Other primary features will include integrated Intel HD 4400 graphics, 4 GB of DDR3 SDRAM, and a 1 TB SSHD with 8 GB of cache. The internal battery will provide over three hours of run-time, just long enough to watch one Lord of the Rings flick.

The specs also show that the monster tablet/AIO hybrid will have three USB 3.0 ports: one on the right side that can charge a smartphone, and two on the left. There will also be an SD card slot for expanded storage, Beats Audio, Bluetooth 4.0 and dual-band Wireless AC connectivity. It will also come with a wireless keyboard and mouse for when you need to go old-school.

Finally there's the Rotation Button. This is so that users can spin the screen to portrait mode, or to adjust the screen for someone sitting across the table. It's backed by a built-in metal prop that folds into the back of the unit. Users can simply push a finger and the Rove20 changes elevation, going from 90 degrees to flat on the table.

"Sometimes – especially when you’ve pushed Rove down onto a tabletop – you want to reorient the screen for people without having to turn the computer," said HP’s Xavier Lauwaert. "That’s why we added a rotation button to the side."

So why create a mobile 20 inch AIO PC? Lauwaert said the idea with Rove20 was to create something new, something other than a clamshell laptop, convertible or detachable. How far can a company go with a tablet? How about a detachable laptop? Enter the Rove20.

"The vast majority of people are merging products….and some are moving away from towers," he said. "Smartphones started conveying the idea that the data you need shouldn’t be shackled to a single location. So we took a logical step for wanting to easily move a full-featured desktop around the home. The other important thing was making a smart design – like the hinge and all-inclusive features so that you don’t feel like you’re missing a stand or keyboard…or need extra speakers that sound better. Because everything you need it right there and able to move with you. And the large 20 inch display doesn’t hurt, either."

The HP ENVY Rove20 will go on sale starting July 14 for $979 USD on the HP shopping site. It will then arrive on Best Buy shelves starting July 21.
