Thousands of tablets stolen by thieves.

New York's biggest airport has been the subject of a large robbery; $1.5 million worth of iPad Mini units that arrived from Apple's manufacturing partner Foxconn from China were stolen.

Thieves managed to steal thousands of iPad Minis from a building within JFK airport. Police said they somehow gained access to the cargo storage area during Monday night. The crooks then utilized an airport forklift to load two pallets containing around 3,600 tablets into a truck.

According to the New York Post, the criminals could have stolen well over $2 million worth of iPad Mini units; when an airport worker returned from a break, three pallets containing the tablet were left as they escaped.

The iPad Mini units had just arrived from China for distribution throughout the United States. The police said they have no leads in regards to who the suspects are or where they fled to.

    Airport is not a secured area, contrary to common belief, especially cargo area. Still, something like this at JFK must have been an inside job. Not sure who will lead the investigation, NYPD, FBI, or someone else, but hope they are at least as competent as South African police. I was once robbed of half-million-dollar worth computer hardware at Johannesburg airport, and a week later a suspect was caught. Unfortunately, his arrest couldn't lead to the recovery of any goods because he was sure his family would be killed if he helped the police. But I think the police did what they could under given circumstances.

    and people think that we are safe from terrorist attacks? Airport security (well... most security) is mostly for show. If someone with intelligence wants something, they will find a way to get it.
