Later this month, LG Electronics USA is adding two new UltraWide monitors to its portfolio of 21:9 LED-lit IPS panels, the EA73 and the LN450W. Both will measure 29 inches diagonally, and feature multitasking and multimedia capabilities, making them ideal for PC gaming, watching movies and managing the bills. However, the LN450W will also include a digital TV tuner for broadcast reception as well as set-top box or cable TV connectivity.
"Picture quality is always the number one priority when LG designs display products, but we also focus on versatility," said Tim Alessi, director of new product development at LG Electronics USA. "Our new UltraWide monitors exemplify that focus with features that make them ideal for home-office professionals, students, gamers and casual users alike."
These two upcoming UltraWide models will support LG's 4-Screen Split feature that allows users to divide the screen into four sections at eight different screen ratios, preventing users from resizing multiple windows and shuffling them around manually. The displays will also support multiple inputs so that users can connect an additional smartphone, tablet or other devices to view their contents on the same screen. This could be useful when wanting to work and watch Netflix simultaneously on the same screen without bogging down one system.
LG didn't provide actual specs, but said that both models will support HDMI, DisplayPort and Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) for streaming media from a smartphone and tablet while recharging the device using a single HDMI-type connection. To take full advantage of MHL, the mobile device will need to be MHL compliant as well (or else it will just pump visuals without receiving a charge).
The company's current 29EA93-P model retails for $599.99 USD and sports the same 21:9 ratio. Technical specs include a 2560 x 1080 resolution, an sRGB over 99 percent color space, a color depth of 16.7 million colors, a contrast ratio of 5M:1 and a response time of 5 ms. Other features include two 7 watt speakers, two HDMI ports, USB 3.0 ports, a DisplayPort and more. The panel is also hardware calibration ready.
As for the EA73 and LN450W, these two new panels will be on sale online and at retailers for suggested prices of $599.99 and $649.99, respectively, in late September. Expect additional hardware details in the next few days.
