Via names C5J Esther processor C7

Taipei - Via introduced new names and name modifications to its C3 and the currently developed C5J processor family.

The C5J, also known by the codename Esther, will receive the nameplate C7. The processor will target low power desktop PCs and personal electronics systems such as PVRs and IP set top boxes, Via said.

The addition of a letter "M" will indicate a processor for mobile devices in the future. The C7-M accordingly will target mainstream slim and light notebook and Tablet PCs. Via claims the phrase "market leading power efficiciency" for its processors, as it is known in similar terms mainly circulated by Intel and Transmeta.

The company continues to manufacture the C3 processor for small form factor PC and entry level PC markets. However, the name of the mobile version of the chip is renamed to C3-M.

For the embedded and thin client markets, Via will continue to offer ultra low power Eden ESP and Eden-N names.
