Tom's Hardware Verdict

The Geekom A9 Max is an attractive mini PC with plenty of ports and low idle power, but its fans are loud and it came with single-channel RAM.

    Full-size SD 4.0 (UHS-II) card slot

  • +

Expandable with 2x SODIMM and 2x M.2 SSD slots

Reasons to avoid

  • -

Some competitors offer OCuLink and / or USB4v2

  • -

The pricing of Mini PCs has become painful

AMD introduced its mid-cycle Ryzen AI 400 chips for laptops at the beginning of the year. Predictably, mini PC makers have decided to update their Ryzen AI 300 designs from last year with the newest generation processors. While the gains from the new silicon might be politely described as incremental, Geekom here has also taken the opportunity to upgrade the cooling system.

The firm also decided to go with a single 32GB DDR5-5600 SODIMM configuration here. Considering the ongoing RAM shortages, it says it decided to do so to allow for less wasteful upgrades down the line. However, AMD iGPUs like the Radeon 890M here, are heavily impacted by the reduced bandwidth of using single-channel system RAM.

the issue with this system is its a slab with no way for it to breath. and stunted by ram. and power constraints. it cuts the performance in half and is slower then the 2025 older version when they did this good work guys lol/

    Cons:
Came with a single 32GB DDR5-5600 SODIMM, heavily impacting iGPU performanceSeriously?? And this is not the sole system builder that uses this nasty trick to save money (and still end up with a $1800 "mini" PC...)

For this amount of money, look for a Micro Center (assuming you're lucky to be within driving distance) which has PCs that beat the carp out of this joke and still costs less!
Unless space is really, really the only reason one would go for this travesty....
