Why you can trust Tom's Hardware
It’s easy to be drawn into the marketing that surrounds gaming monitors. Impressive specs like refresh rates and long feature lists make it easy to forget that there are enterprise screens just as capable of delivering solid performance and entertainment.
The Acer Vero B247Y is a perfect example. For $155, you get a nice IPS panel with higher-than-average contrast, accurate color out of the box and respectable gaming performance. Don’t let its 120 Hz sway you. There are faster screens out there, but the B247Y closes the gap with a good overdrive and available backlight strobing. It has some phasing, but it’s useful when frame rates are low. But 120fps shouldn’t be that hard to achieve at FHD resolution. And pixel density on its 24-inch screen is 93ppi, not too far below the 27-inch QHD segment.
The B247Y is a perfect example of “everything you need and nothing you don’t” gaming. It’s IT-friendly and performs well as a gaming tool and entertainment machine for breaktime. It’s perfect for dorm rooms or other places where space and money are in short supply. And if you’re considering multiple screens, you can get three of them and an arm for around $600, score! Users looking for a good all-around monitor for less than $156 have a new option to consider.
