LG to Announce 'Tier 1' Smartphone at MWC

LG said during its CES 2013 press conference that the handset manufacturer will be unveiling a 'tier one' smartphone next month during MWC.

James Fishler, the company's senior VP of marketing, said the firm is aiming to launch a slate of high-end phones into the market throughout 2013. "At MWC next month, and throughout the year, we'll be bringing more tier one handsets, in various screen sizes."

It was recently rumored that the company will reveal a full HD, 5.5-inch handset with a 1080p screen at the Mobile World Congress in February.

As for its more immediate plans, it's expected to unveil the Optimus G2 sometime during this week at CES 2013.

I like that part. Bring on top-performing 4" phones! (please)

  • LG Wouldn't know a good performing phone if it slapped them in the face. The Nexus 4 is underwhelming to say the least, and everything else they have released on the smartphone front for the last couple years has been disappointing.

If LG wouldn't compromise so much their devices would indeed be much better. The 4x HD isn't a total disappointment. It only has a lousy loudspeaker, lousy camera and they should have tested the camera-software a bit more thoroughly.

LG also ought to learn that dumping phones on the market and leave them to rot afterwards doesn't fare well with consumers!

And a 3rd thing. If LG "releases" another phone perhaps "release" it EVERYWHERE!!! Why brag about your phones when they're nowhere to be found, goddammit! The same goes for Google. Both the Optimus G and Nexus phones are not available in my country so STOP BRAGGING about it!
