System Builder Marathon, Sept. '09: $2,500 Performance PC

Benchmark Results: Crysis And Fallout 3

We keep Crysis around as a benchmark in spite of its age, simply because it continues to choke even the best gaming systems at its highest settings. Will any system ever overcome its difficulties?

Completely playable at every resolution using High quality presets, frame rates drop below our smoothness standard using Very High quality and a 2560x1600 screen resolution. We don’t need to toss in anti-aliasing (AA) to see that we’ve already exceeded this system’s practical limits.

Fallout 3 results appear strange, almost CPU-limited except at the lowest resolution. The reason it’s strange is that CPU limitations normally cut across all but the highest screen resolutions.

... do the video compression using ATi Streem...

  • The Quality of video on ATI streem is shit on sticks and doesn't even support high profile.

The last build was a bit too odd for me but this one seems like a very nice chose of parts and on a larger screen set up makes a lot of sense the loss of i7 for AMD only build was a bit sad but the addition of those great SSD kind of makes up for me along with the nice chose of case and cooling. That case looks like it is very nice to work on.
