Results: Synthetics
As we jump into the benchmarks, bear in mind that this quarter's system features an iterative CPU and GPU upgrade compared to what we used last quarter.
On one hand, the CPU overclock is identical. On the other, the memory is tuned a little less aggressively than the last time around. We don't want to spoil anything, but there are a couple of surprises in the results.
The new system achieves a higher Overall score in 3DMark 11, in addition to a better Graphics module result, thanks to its GeForce GTX 770. On the other hand, the Physics metric is slightly lower. Since that's a CPU-dependent test, we're wondering if it's also somewhat limited by memory performance.
The PCMark scores are very, very similar, though the new build wins by a narrow margin.
The Haswell-based Core i5 achieves a higher Dhrystone score in Sandra due to its support for AVX2. The Whetstone results are even between the two chips, though.
This quarter's build suffers a loss in the Cryptography module. Because AES-NI is dependent on memory bandwidth to feed the CPU, we can guess that the next chart is going to show lower throughput results, too.
Indeed, the memory bandwidth results show that today's configuration comes up short.
