Oculus Rift inventor, Palmer Luckey, revealed what many people had already suspected for some time: Oculus Rift pre-orders have slipped into 2016, though he did say production is on track for the anticipated Q1 launch.
Luckey took to Twitter to let everyone know that production of the highly anticipated Oculus Rift VR HMD is underway and on target for launch in the first quarter of next year. A short while later, he replied to his own comment with a statement that pre-orders won’t take place until after the new year.
Oculus had announced in June, just prior to E3, that pre-orders for the Rift would go on sale later this year, and as the days have ticked by, anticipation has grown for many. With precious few days left in the calendar year, rather than leave us all in suspense, the company founder has given you the gift of a “stress-free holiday” by confirming orders won’t open until the new year.
CES is just around the corner, and Oculus has a very big booth at the event. Perhaps “soon after the new year” is a hint of what news to expect at the Consumer Electronics Show in a couple of weeks.
