NEC and LaCie Lead On Professional LCD Gear

Dell 2405FPW: Gargantuan

If 1600x1200 isn't good enough for you, there is always the ultimate solution: the Dell 2405FPW. With a massive 24" diagonal screen size and a native resolution of 1920x1200, this is a colossus of precision. But the price is still at the same level as the NEC 2180UX, so obviously we are looking at a much better price to performance ratio than we've seen so far.

Design And Finish

The Dell 2405FPW is really an evolution of the 2001FP; here we find the same basic build, using quality plastics. But, the style of the product is still nothing out of the ordinary and the grainy nature of the plastics is a bit unappealing.

Ergonomics

Dell hasn't made that many changes to the ergonomics of the 2405FPW, which provides basically the same performance as its predecessor. Adjusting tilt and height are the same. You still get the pivoting stand - it's of dubious use for an apparatus of this size, but at least it's there. The only innovation is the addition of backlit displays at the base of the panel to show the input in use.

Equipment

In addition to a USB hub, Dell has provided an integrated multimedia card reader - a really useful option compared to the other manufacturers.
