Western Digital just launched its new Red family of mechanical hard drives, optimized specifically for home and small office/home office (SOHO) network-attached storage devices. The company sent its 2 and 3 TB models for us to benchmark and review.
Benchmark Results: PCMark 7
Both Red drives stand their ground in PCMark 7's application benchmarks, falling in right behind the 7200 RPM drives. Once again, this shows that the drives are optimized more for acoustics and power rather than all-out performance.
