Google yesterday announced a brand new Chromebook aimed at the budget laptop market. As with other models in the Chromebook line, this laptop runs on Google's web-based Chrome OS. When Google first announced the device, it seemed as though it would only ship with WiFi in terms of connectivity. However, if you're willing to pay a little bit more, you can most definitely have that 3G connectivity.
The Verge reports that both Samsung and Amazon are now selling a Verizon 3G version of the notebook for $349 Whether or not the 3G connectivity is worth paying an extra hundred dollars is up to you. Connectivity aside, this new Chromebook packs a Samsung Exynos 5 dual-core processor (otherwise known as the ARM Cortex-A15 processor), an 11.6-inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768, 16GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM, a full-sized Chrome keyboard, and a battery life that Google claims is over six hours.
Google said yesterday that it will release the device in 500 Best Buy stores and more than 30 Currys and PC World stores from next week, a far cry from the online-only strategy it had with the first generation models.
