Samsung Previews Windows 8 AIO Intel-Based PCs

This week during IFA 2012, Samsung showcased new Windows 8-based additions to its Series 7 and Series 5 All-In-One (AIO) PCs. Both sport high-resolution ten-point touch, slim bezel displays mounted on an "elegant" metal base, and a third-generation Intel Core processor. Both models will be available beginning October 26, 2012 with the Series 7 ranging from $1,099 to $1,699, and the Series 5 addition costing $749.

"Our new Series 7 and Series 5 All-In-One PCs are designed to meet a range of consumer needs across the home, all within highly stylized form factors that users will be proud to put on display," said Todd Bouman, vice president of product marketing at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. "The expansion of our AIO line speaks to the success we’ve had in the PC market over the past year. Both of these new models take Samsung’s convergence technologies to the next level, completing the home computing experience by connecting the PC to other devices in the home environment."

Samsung said that both models will have five simple hand gesture recognition features that let users stay in control with just a flick of the wrist from up to three feet away. Users can swipe right or left to turn the pages of an e-book, or rotate their palm clockwise or counter-clockwise to change the volume while watching a movie. They can even close their hand to click on an option in a program, or wave their hands to stop watching a movie.

According to a provided set of specs, Samsung will actually introduce three AIO PCs: a 27-inch ($1699) model and a 23.6-inch ($1099) model in the Series 7 line, and a 21.5-inch ($749) model in the Series 5 line. Here's a quick roundup of each:

Even more, the Jamie Oliver’s Recipes Windows 8 app will be pre-installed, offering recipes from around the world that are formatted specifically for the application. The new Series 5 All-In-One was even designed to serve as an ideal kitchen PC, with a keyboard and mouse that fit neatly in between the legs of the base to open up counter space. All three models will come packed with a wireless mouse, keyboard, and a remote control, Samsung said.

"Samsung’s Series 7 and Series 5 AIO PCs both feature a clutter-free and space-saving design, complete with a unique and stylish metallic stand, an ultra-slim display with a durable metal edge, and an edge-to-edge glossy black screen," the company said. "These elegant new models add a premium look to any living space or office while maximizing available space on a desk or countertop."

computernerdforlife"...Intel HD Graphics 4000." -> PASS!Did you miss the first one that is sporting a HD7850M?

Besides, the HD4K has gone leaps and bounds beyond what crappy Intel HD chipsets used to be capable of. For an all-in-one, HD4K is more than enough. It's not like this is a high-performance gaming machine.

Do a lot of people buy non-Apple AIO PCs? I know many people who buy iMacs, but that's because they're the only Mac 'desktop' they sell (the Pro is more of a workstation), and they're looking for Macs.

Not hating on Windows/OEMs, just curious if these actually sell given the amount of money companies pour into them.

I know of one person personally who has thought of purchasing an AIO. I own an iMac but never use it and just use my gaming PC for everything.

AIO's are good, cheap and powerful space savers if someone who owns an old slow PC upgrades to one, but to those of us with computers already, they are more of a novelty but that's just my opinion.

Who can answer accurately to "a lot of people"?

They're AIO multi touch, not just AIO remember.

My parents have one and really like it (Win 7 machine with Win 8 RP on it), my brother is thinking hard on one for the kitchen/dining area. they're very quiet and space saving, the large screen ones are the way to go I think, 25"+.

AIOs are for fashion victims. Low powered components (3770T and 7850M), you can't replace the screen, CPU, MB, graphics (right?), yet it isn't really portable. It's a desktop with all the disadvantages of a laptop - why not instead get a laptop and an external display?
