LG's G Watch is One of the First With Google Wear

LG revealed on Wednesday its "highly anticipated" LG G Watch, which is one of the first devices to be powered by the Android Wear platform. Google launched the platform on Wednesday, June 25, and solutions from both LG and Samsung will be available later on today. Motorola's watch will be launched later this summer.

According to LG, the watch includes an always-on 1.65-inch IPS display with "true-to-life" color reproduction and a 280 x 280 resolution. This screen is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 512 MB of RAM and a 400 mAh battery. There's also 4 GB of internal storage, a handful of sensors, and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.

The user experience centers on the use of cards, which will cough up information for the user when needed. The smartwatch also supports voice recognition so that the user can ask questions.

"With voice recognition, LG was free to design the LG G Watch without any buttons or keys," states the PR. "Users can send text messages and search for useful information just by saying, "Ok Google." LG and Google worked closely together from the outset to design a truly integrated experience."

The new smartwatch is dust and water resistant (IP67), allowing it to be submerged in just over three feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The smartwatch is also constructed of Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coated stainless steel and a rugged silicone wristband in the same color. The LG G Watch will be made available in Black Titan and White Gold.

As previously indicated, LG's G Watch will be made available for pre-purchase on the Google Play store starting June 25. The watch will initially be offered in the United States, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, South Korea and Japan. The G Watch will also be made available in 27 more markets soon.
